When should you request your data?
Migrating data into a new CRM can feel like a bit of a juggling act. Here’s how it plays out depending on when you make the move:
If you request your data early
Pros
Our data team can start prepping your data so you hit the ground running on day one
If there are any issues with your old database, we can use your current system as a reference point
You’ll have little to no reliance on your previous company, aggregator or CRM after your exit date
You have free access to Trail during your transfer
Cons
Any data entered into your current system after the export is done will need to be manually entered into your new CRM (Trail) once you transition
If you request your data closer to your last day
Pros
You can keep using your current system right up until you finish, so all your latest data makes it into the migration
Cons
Some companies cut off CRM access the day you leave, so you won’t be able to refer back to your old database
They might charge you to assist with any data work or further access
You could be waiting 2 to 4 weeks for your data to be fully migrated into Trail, meaning you might be without client files for a while
Our advice?
Request your data as soon as you’ve handed in your notice and no later than four weeks before your transfer. Yes, it means a little manual work for the weeks leading up to your move, but it’s worth it to avoid headaches and delays.
